Born in Warsaw (1979), Joanna Szproch is a Berlin-based visual artist and art mediator working primarily with lens-based media. After earning her MA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland in 2004, she pursued further education in Germany, focusing on artistic research and cultural education through programs such as Cultural Education Professional Development and Artistic Research in the Context of Local History and Culture of Remembrance.
Relocating to Berlin in 2012, Szproch shifted from commercial work to explore female sensuality and societal norms through long-term autobiographical projects. Her debut artist book, Alltagsfantasie (Everyday Fantasy), released in 2023 and funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Kunstfonds Foundation, marks a significant milestone in her career.
Szproch showcases her uncompromising vision globally, participating in solo and group exhibitions, art residencies, and prestigious events such as the Paris Photo Fair and Rencontres Arles. Her achievements include winning the Fotofestival Łódź's Dummy Competition, a nomination for the Star Dummy Awards, and residencies at AIR WRO in Poland, as well as exhibitions at Melkweg Expo in the Netherlands, Weserhalle, and GlogauAir in Germany, and the self-published publication Bigbul.
Beyond artistic creation, Szproch is a passionate cultural educator. She has lectured at the HTK Academy for Design in Berlin and utilizes her art for projects promoting dialogue, self-discovery, and gender equality through social work initiatives.
